Republic Day, a day for deep thinking
As we celebrate the 60th Year of the Indian Republic, there certainly needs to be a thought on our commitment towards our nation. The life of man is more serious than what he has generally believed. The life of a person is not complete without him meeting the duties that are expected of him by the society. The first duty that is expected of a man is that he is successful in life. And somehow in our country, we are still not serious about becoming successful in life. So first of all we need to put that desire in our heart to be successful. Staying where we are and not thinking to get anywhere beyond is what is called “Tamas” and its not going to help us. The desire to be successful brings out energy to flow in positive directions. Swami Vivekananda says, “Each soul is potentially divine” and it means everyone has the capacity in him to be highly successful in Life. The message of Swami Vivekananda is calling up on our people to believe in themselves and out of that faith something will come out. Its the time when all of us irrespective of our age and position believe that we are capable of doing something. And that belief should be taken and practically worked out in life and we Indians, seriously need to give up idle talk.
Many of us struggle to find a path to be successful. If we are able to find a path on our own, its well and good, else we must look into the life of various successful personalities from different walks of life and derive inspiration from their lives. With a personal study, I dare say that most successful personalities have done it from scratch. That should be a great source of inspiration for anyone who wants to be successful.
Few things should be kept in mind when we aspire to be successful. First of all, the means should be correct. You dont want to be successful by cheating someone or by doing things which do not stand the test of ethics. And secondly we must sincerely find out what we are good at, it would be easier to make a fortune in things that we like than in the things that we force ourselves on. Out of our observation, we can safely say that wherever there is quality, there always has been success. Even a person who makes good quality Pani Puri draws onto him people from long distances. That should be an ample proof to show that with quality even the most simple business can bring riches. Thirdly I say we must endure towards higher things. We must keep in mind that we should grow further. “Grow Further” is the watch word of human life. Sri Ramakrishna Deva used to say “Go forward” even for those who achieved progress in Spiritual Life. He said that there are higher things to be found if we go further. The same thing would very much apply even in ordinary life. And Finally, we must always keep it in mind that we have a responsibility towards our Society. As much as possible, we must develop good relationships with people and help the needy as much as that lies in our capacity.
So this Republic Day, the greatest gift that we can give our country is to rouse ourselves. I end this with a beautiful quote by Swami Vivekananda. “We are to take care of ourselves - that much we can do - and give up attending to others for a time. Let us perfect the means; the end will take care of itself. For the world can be good and pure, only if our lives are good and pure. It is an effect, and we are the means. Therefore, let us purify ourselves. Let us make ourselves perfect.”
“Jai Sri Ramakrishna”
